Back in 2018, I was working on the early visual development of the game Chorus at the gamedev studio Fishlabs. Have a look :) . I left about 3 years ago, and it finally released, so I was awaiting the moment I get to show off some of my favourites from that time. I had a huge stack of artwork to go through and was agonizing what to put in and what to cut out (maybe you know the feeling). In the end, I dumpstered, like, 90%. Its still a lot, but these are my darlings. I decided I'd show different stages for some of it, too, because I always find that stuff interesting, and maybe you do, too.

This drop contains a mixed bag of concepts for different parts of the game from props to advertisements to designs space stations.

Some designs for one of the earliest regions the player gets to see in the game. This cracked planet I also made a matte paint of to be used as a skybox sprite. That file was so huge, photoshop was steaming when I saved it.

I have no concept of how long lava would stay hot enough to glow in space. It would look very cool in 0-G though, I'm sure :)

This stuff here was fun vis-dev where we were exploring how the hologram technology could work. This is all based around the idea of emissive fibers captured and controlled with magnetic fields. I'm fairly certain that that did not make it into the game.

I used a ton of blender for all this stuff. It was fun, but the render times man... I guess it's my own fault for not knowing how to optimize my shader/particle system abominations.

This model and the previous one were made by Dario Furlan! I was glad we had something I could use in blender, otherwise this might have been tough

Now this stuff here was some of the most fun I had on the project. All the following was ideas for space stations that were based on alien technology. I was in the zone with that stuff :D

I just love the idea of an odd sort of freeform arrangement of rings for a station. This is one of my favourites for how much it gets an Alien mind across for station design.

Doing these translucent pipes, I had that chefs kiss moment when I tried rendering it and that disgusting biotechnology look worked right away.

I am fascinated with how flexible you are in blender when you want to use it in a procedural way to generate geometry. I made dozens of variations in a short amount of time, just changing what kind of techgreeble was flowing along this torus.
